Cavalier Band Mission Statement

The Lake Travis Cavalier Band is a group of student musicians with the highest standards of performance and behavior. We represent Lake Travis High School with pride, dignity, and professionalism. We perform at all LT football games, a series of marching and concert band contests and festivals, and at a variety of concerts and service events. Various smaller groups from within our band perform at selected events to meet the needs of our school district and community. These groups include the Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Flute Choir, and several smaller ensembles.

Our program of activities is well balanced between Concert/Symphonic Band, Marching Band, individual performance, and small ensemble offerings. We offer a quality, well-rounded education in music and life skills to all our members.

We are a cohesive, supportive family. We stick together and help each other through the hard times. We are a positive force in the lives of young people. In addition to enriching lives through musical involvement, we learn discipline, cooperation, work ethic, goal setting, and achievement. We learn to respect ourselves and others, and elevate self-esteem and self-worth.

We are serious and professional in our performance and rehearsal approach. Our rehearsals are well planned and well organized, and no time is wasted. We perform with the utmost of pride and dignity at all times.

PERFORMANCE AND REHEARSAL COMMITMENT

It only takes a glance at the calendar to see that this is a busy group. Our band performs at many events and represents our school’s pride and spirit throughout the state.

We support one another by attending all performances and rehearsals. Remember that you play a vital role in every performance and rehearsal, so your attendance and punctuality is always important. A major part of learning to work successfully in a team is knowing that you are important to the group and the group is weakened if you are not there.

COMPETITION

The Lake Travis High School Band participates in all state-prescribed UIL and TMEA events as well as selected festivals and contests. It is our philosophy that students can learn and grow through competition when it is approached in an educationally sound manner. All events are carefully selected for their ability to enhance student learning through participation, observation, and adjudication. Winning is not the ultimate goal, but the fortunate by-product of hard work and proper preparation.

GOALS

  • Achieve balance between the elements of education, entertainment, community/school service, and competition.
  • Continue to expand upon our role as the spirit leader of our school.
  • Provide new and varied performance opportunities for our band and all its ensembles.
  • Explore musical literature that will challenge our students musically and intellectually.
  • Build individual musicianship through All-Region auditions, solo and small ensemble contests.
  • Broaden our selection of competitive and non-competitive events to meet the educational needs of all our students.
  • Build camaraderie and unity throughout all the units of our Cavalier Band.
