Everything Day | Monday, August 4, 2008
Held the first day of Week 1 of Band Camp, attendance at Everything Day is MANDATORY for the band student and one parent. On this day, band students will turn in all required forms, be measured for uniforms, order shoes and t-shirts, pay fees, check out instruments, and take care of any other requirements necessary in preparation for Marching Season.

Volunteers are needed for Everything Day. Also if you have 6 foot tables that could be used for E-Day, please let us know. Contact Donna Wahl at wahlford@austin.rr.com.

Summer Packets
New format for 2008! The annual summer packet containing a wealth of information is going high-tech this year. It will contain some basic information but most forms and flyers will be available for you on-line. You will print the required forms and bring them with you to E-Day. Look for more details in your summer mailing coming mid June.

Drum Corp International
DCI Southwestern Championship will be returning to San Antonio on Saturday, July 19th at the Alamodome. This is an exciting day filled with 21 marching corps performing. One Lake Travis Cavalier Band student described it as “one LONG halftime show” last year. Consider attending this year and showing your Cavalier Band spirit by wearing your band shirts. Ticket prices range from $26 to $51 each. It is well worth the price for hours of entertainment. This show counts toward the Texas Music Scholar nomination requirement. For more information, go to http://www.dci.org/schedule/detail.cfm?event=8826af1b-d155-455b-9723-23ec69b78165. Also, check out the first prize winner of DCI’s Spring Break ’08 Photo Contest which features a current LT band student and a future LT band student… http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=18f84dc3-9a89-496d-95ef-1ae45a75b46a

Thanks

We want to thank all of our band family for allowing us to be a part of a great organization for the last 5 years. It is a joyous time period we will remember in our golden years.

For those who enjoyed the banquet DVD programs (dinner and senior videos) and for the seniors who received the 3-DVD set in their senior gift bag, please take time to thank Glyn Slay and Henry Fieglein. Without Glyn, the seniors would not be receiving their 3-DVD set. Glyn reproduced and printed 105 DVDs for the seniors. For those who have had the unpleasant opportunity to render one DVD (it takes a long time), you will understand how much effort he put into the senior gift. Both Glyn and Henry also helped me enhance the pictures you saw during the banquet.

For next year’s band parents, the 3-DVD set includes the Senior Video, Banquet Program Sections Video, and 4-years of UIL marching band competitions and associated slide shows of each year. We now pass the baton to the next band parent video team leader. Glyn has the last 5 years of UIL and concert video and slide show files. With your help, future seniors can continue the band tradition of providing the seniors with band memories they can share with their future family and grandchildren. Please volunteer at the next Everything Day to continue the tradition. A challenging task is made easy as more share the load.

Until we meet again, Aloha,

Christian (2007 graduate), Rannon (2008 graduate), Roxanna (the better half), and Chris Ching

LT Band Students Score State 1st Division Ratings
The following Cavalier Band students recently competed in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest at the University of Texas, and were awarded a First Division (highest possible) rating for their performances.
Alex B. – saxophone solo
Rannon C. – marimba solo
Rannon C., Robin M. & Tressa S. – marimba trio
Congratulations to these students and all who qualified to participate in this state event.

Spring Banquet
The banquet committee would like to thank everyone who worked so hard organizing and putting on the banquet! Karen Wetterau for the countless hours getting the awards organized, Kristi Sisk for all her creative talent with the decorations, Chris Ching for the slide show and senior video, Paula Baczewski for putting together the program, Leslie Scott for getting the senior activities organized, and to Rose DeCaro and Becky Carfer who braved the heat to help at the check in table. Plus a big THANK YOU to all the people who arrived early at the church to help set up and who stayed late to get the church cleaned and reset!

The beautiful table decorations are still available for purchase for $5.00, contact Kristi Sisk at ksisk@austin.rr.com.

There were several items left at the end of the evening. If one of these items sounds familiar, let me know!
- A pair of blue metallic reading glasses, no frames around the lens.
- A black silk blend sweater, size small.

Contact Julie Roth at 657-1032 or JRoth9999@aol.com to claim your missing item!

Volunteer Opportunities
There are many wonderful opportunities for you to serve your band family. Thanks so much to the people who have already stepped forward to take a job for the upcoming year. In addition to the required fall concessions shift, there are still several committee chair positions open. The key to enjoying your volunteer work is finding the right fit for your time and talents. Fortunately in an organization as large as ours, there is a place for everyone! Please consider the following positions and see which ones are a match for you.
